Kimberley Diamond Cup 2013 - The Lowdown
02 October 2013

Man, I was bleak when I couldn't make it to the Kimberley Diamond Cup this year. And, after watching the footage over the weekend, I am chilling in a mild depression right now.

Held at the Kumba Skate Plaza in Kimberley, the event saw KZN-based skateboarder, Dallas Oberholzer, cruise away with the R10,000 first prize in the amateur vert competition. For those of you that don't know, vert skateboarding involves riding a board on a ramp or incline and the skateboarder has to go from the horizontal to vertical plane to rock a trick (I know. I'd rather just watch, too.) Unrelated, Dallas' hair is majestic.

The highlight of the event was pretty thrilling. American skater, Nyjah Houston, stole the show by rocking a backside 270 kickflip to backside lipslide down the large rail. And get this... It was during practise! Like it ain't no thing. No idea what that trick is? Check it out...

And I had a good chuckle at the crowd's sheer pleasure during these two tricks...

Were you there? Was it amazing? I never want to miss this again!
